Review
Decades of research confirm that having just one good friend benefits children by protecting them from life stress and improving emotional well-being and resilience. Yet, making a friend can be challenging for many kids. Daniel Georges brilliantly tackles this age-old dilemma faced in How I Made a Friend. In the time-honored tradition of teaching important life lessons via a great story, the reader is drawn in with relatable characters, excellent pacing, humor, and plot twists. Add to that the quirky and charming illustrations and you have the whole package. Hands down this is one of the most well-considered, charming, and captivating books for young children on friendship I have read in my long career as an educator and child psychologist. Well-deserving as an award-winning book, I highly recommend How I Made a Friend and have no doubt it will become a go-to favorite in any child’s library.”— Lilla Dale McManis, MEd, PhD - Psychologist specializing in child development, education, and parenting

"A wonderful story to help children understand friendships and their emotions..."
The story is delightful and teaches young readers about the importance of having good friends. The illustrations breathe life into the characters and scenes. William's character and the friendship between the two boys are both real and relatable. It is a good story for reading aloud and storytelling sessions in classrooms. The 'Join the Best Friends Album' at the end of the book makes it interactive and entertaining for readers. It is a wonderful story to help children understand friendships and their emotions, how good things can happen unexpectedly and suddenly, just like how William found a friend when he least expected it to happen.
