Because time is a Slinky, apparently.
Max Leavitt isn’t excited about spending his summer working at his aunt Laura’s hotel, which is long past its prime. But his aunt could use some help running the front desk, and Max—a bright, obedient teen who earned fives on all his AP tests and needs a steady paycheck to send back to his mom—may just be smart enough to save her business from whatever’s cursing it.
But Max doesn’t know anything about hotels, and there’s something about the Gettaway Inn and Suites that doesn’t seem right. Probably its history of guests going missing or found dead. One day, Max hears scratching inside the wall of his room, and spots an enormous metallic spider with blade-like legs skittering around the halls. He chases the creature into one of the guest rooms, only to discover he’s slipped back in time to 1986…and his aunt’s failing hotel is thriving. Turns out time-traveling is sort of fun—that is, until the silver spiders start slicing up hotel guests, leaving mutilated bodies behind, and digging a maze of portals between different points in time.
At least Max has uncovered what’s cursing his aunt’s hotel. Now, he just has to figure out how to get back to the present—and what to do about these terrifying skitters.
