Description

We live in chaotic times. As Christians, we can easily become just as confused, angry, and overwhelmed as the rest of the world. Phil Chan explains how readers can build a spiritual life that doesn’t just survive but thrives when the world is at its craziest. Tailored for people juggling work, family, ministry, and more, Rhythms of Resilience provides a framework for understanding how chaos disrupts our emotional and spiritual lives and what to do about it. Phil’s fifteen simple spiritual practices will help readers reclaim a vibrant relationship with God and fulfill the call to impact the modern world.

Review

“The best practices are ones we can sustain,” remarks Phil Chan in Rhythms of Resilience. Indeed, the rhythms and practices described in this volume are so helpful precisely because they are sustainable for those who don't live in the monastery or the hills of Kentucky. This book presents spiritual formation for the majority of us, who live in the midst of the chaos of modern life. During my years of teaching spiritual formation, I often heard people remark that once things quieted down, they would create healthy rhythms. But life doesn't settle down. This volume shows us how to establish resilient rhythms amid the chaos that is our lives. This highly accessible book will resonate with those longing for anchors in the storms of life.

—Jude Tiersma Watson, PhD Elder with Inner Change Senior Associate Professor of Urban Mission Fuller Theological Seminary

Review

As author Phil Chan deftly reminds us, Jesus said we would know a tree by its fruit. Too often, Christians surround themselves with inner and outer chaos—led by vitriol and noise, rather than the fruits of love, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, etc. Chan invites readers into another way of being. Grounded in rich theology, ancient spiritual practices, and practical orthodoxy, Chan guides us to reclaim spiritual rhythms that will lead to a Spirit-filled, fruit-filled, resilient life that honors Jesus and brings much-needed shalom amid the chaos of this world.

—Aubrey Sampson Author of Known and The Louder Song Teaching Pastor, Church Planter, Podcaster, Broadcaster

As a Christian mental health therapist, I cannot thank Phillip Chan enough for writing this book, especially when we need it most. I highly recommend this book to anyone who recognizes God’s calling in their lives. It will help you grow and flourish in a world where you may feel you are barely staying afloat. I am excited for you, reader, to reclaim a life worth living and to walk on the waters with Him in the midst of the storm.

—Daniel Wongthavatchai, LCSW Mental Health Therapist
