Solutions for creating a more positive professional environment using kindness and mutual respect.

In Making Work Work, an internationally recognized leadership consultant offers solutions for creating a more positive professional environment using kindness and mutual respect.

Shola Richards had reached the end of the road: after nearly two years at a toxic job, he felt numb and suicidal. So he quit and focused on inspiring current and future leaders in all stages of their careers to start a workplace movement around positivity.

This empowering guide presents Richards’s strategies along with actionable plans. His keys to success include banishing blame and excuses, relentlessly respecting ourselves, maintaining work - separation, recognizing the benefits of having true and lasting friends at work, taking the time to appreciate our colleagues, and dealing with difficult people like bullies. A series of exercises will help you move toward meaningful action.

This encouraging book is a call to action built on a foundation of positivity.

Leading a world change
From bullying to gossiping and all manner of disrespect, Richards documents incivility in the workplace with some astounding (and credible) statistics plus, of course, a goodly number of solutions and what-to-do’s about it ... While he debunks myths (positivity will never work; our workplaces are way too broken to fix) and underscores the facts (excuses can destroy your career, kill you, and drive away business), he provides a powerful template to follow as he ranges from defining respect to leading a world change. ― Booklist

Great strategies
This book is so helpful. I am a teacher and the past three years have been exceptionally difficult. Everyone is in a bad mood - students and staff. This book address so many topics they are helpful in education and in all industries. I was skeptical about whether it would be helpful or if it would be too much “toxic positivity”. It isn’t toxic positivity at all. The strategies are very realistic and helpful, even if you’re the only one at your workplace wanting to bring about change. — Amazon review

Shola Richards’ life’s mission is an ambitious one: To end generations of professional suffering, simply by changing how we treat each other at work. Shola is an advocate, a one-man counsel, and a humanitarian hardwired for positivity, who (ironically) speaks, coaches, consults, and authors books on the shadowy, often underground, and underestimated subject of workplace bullying, a pernicious reality that, when overlooked, corrodes trust, distorts communication, and ultimately usurps equity from the bottom line by using up a company’s most valuable resource: its people.

His approach is to open eyes to the staggering price we pay for normalized, toxic behavior, because we can’t address what we don’t see. His result is people equipped with tangible, doable solutions because we can’t accomplish what we can’t make actionable. His dogma is that everyone deserves a healthy work environment because the quality and meaning of our work suffers when we do.

Through his books (Go Together and Making Work Work) and featured articles that have reached readers in over 160 countries, and through his presentations with institutions that range from Silicon Valley businesses to the Department of Homeland Security, Shola is spearheading a timely revolution that teaches us how to protect the professionalism of our company cultures, the preciousness of our time, the strength of our talents, the dignity of ourselves, and the mutual respect of one another.
