A Tale of Two Agents: Chapter Seven

August is like the Sunday of summer.

Sometimes in life, great opportunities really do fall into our laps. This summer, DropCapโ€™s first intern Meg Gabel was one of those unexpected surprises, contacting us for an opportunity to gain a bit of insight into the publishing world and a career she wishes to pursue after graduation. Meg is an English major from Binghamton University in the state of New York, a Dean's List student entering her senior year, and editor of the collegeโ€™s literary magazine. For slightly old schoolers like ourselves, Meg shared her Gen-Z perspective on TikTokโ€™s book forum #booktok with the following insight:

"The rise of #booktok has also brought about a rise of young readers. As kids, it's not uncommon for many people to plough through books at a high pace. But that community of reading gets lost through the trudge of high school. However, #booktok has brought it back. A community of readers on TikTok which basically runs as a book club for thousands.

Thanks to this platform, many books have become bestsellers, like They Both Die at the End, which was published in Summer 2017, but entered the bestseller list this year. Plenty of other books have become widely known amongst young people, and it is clear to see that #booktok is soon taking over the whole reading world. One of our own books, Witches, Sluts, Feminists, was featured in a video that amassed over 84.1K views and 11.5K likes!"

Good luck, Meg and thank you!

Speaking of Sunday in August, we now have our very own Sunday for every month of the year! Sunday Mancini joins us as our Content Manager and has already wrapped up her first interview with our talented fiction author, Soren Paul Petrek. His answers conjure up images of August summers in Minnesota, particularly one describing his favorite food:

"Nothing tastes quite like it, especially sitting on a rock, balancing a plate with sand between oneโ€™s toes."
