Description

Lou is feeling a bit nervous, because today he has a doctor’s appointment! Lou knows that are a lot of different doctors out there, but he wonders what to expect. Time to use his bubble wand! In this story, Lou learns about different types of doctors, why people go to the doctor or dentist, and what might occur while he’s there. For example, he may have to wait quite a while and should bring something to do. The doctor may use special tools that look interesting, but are not safe to play with, so he will have to manage himself. Experts Kimberly Tice and Venita Litvack do an excellent job of providing the right words and ways to set expectations for children who are going to a doctor’s appointment.

Review
“[I] really LOVE how the book is welcoming to ASD kids (or any kids really) and presents how to learn appropriate behavior for a doctor visit, while relieving some of the anxieties kids feel with unknown situations. Very practical for parents! Wish these existed when we started our journey with our son ten years ago! While no two ASD kids are alike, we all struggle with these subjects and finally can find practical help!” – Lorna Glywasky, parent of a child with ASD “Lou takes the guessing out of going to all types of doctors’ visits because Lou always knows what to do. As a Mom of an autistic son, it is critical to spell out EXACTLY what will take place at any appointment and especially the doctor’s office visits. Often times, these types of visits can be anxiety-ridden and burdensome for the child and whomever takes them to their visit. Lou makes going to the doctor a fun adventure, provides a detailed sequence of events of what to expect, AND offers interactive communication between the reader and the child. We LOVE Lou!!” – Julia Bell, parent of a child with ASD
