The Metamorphosis
by Franz Kafka
| One morning, travelling salesman Gregor Samsa wakes to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect. Out of these implausible beginnings, Franz Kafka crafts the most disquieting work of the twentieth century; not a work of fantasy but one of profound human alienation, written in prose that is calm, precise, and merciless. That jointure of the absurd and the abject has come to shape our very language: 'Kafkaesque' is, today, shorthand for the impenetrable machinery of modern life that traps within it the very figures it is designed to protect. Qomix Classics gives delirious, psychedelic form to Kafka's genius for the grotesque and the banal in this spectacular graphic edition. Rooms contract and expand, bodies distort, Gregor's claustrophobic anxiety weighs on every page. |

Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka (1883β1924) was a German-speaking Bohemian writer, widely regarded as one of the most influential authors of the 20th century. Born in Prague to a middle-class Jewish family, Kafka worked as an insurance clerk by day while crafting his haunting, surrealist fiction by night.
His writing is defined by themes of alienation, absurdity, bureaucratic oppression, and existential dread β often featuring ordinary individuals trapped in incomprehensible, nightmarish systems. His most celebrated works include *The Metamorphosis* (1915), in which a man wakes to find himself transformed into a giant insect, and his unfinished novels *The Trial* and *The Castle*, both published posthumously by his friend Max Brod, against Kafka's own wishes to have them destroyed.
π **The Metamorphosis** (1915) β Kafka's most iconic novella opens with one of literature's most startling lines: salesman Gregor Samsa awakens one morning to discover he has been transformed into a monstrous vermin. The story explores themes of identity, family duty, and social rejection with cold, matter-of-fact prose that makes the absurd feel terrifyingly real.
So profound was his impact that the word **"Kafkaesque"** entered the English language, describing situations that are bizarrely complex, illogical, or dehumanizing. Though little recognized in his lifetime, Kafka is now considered a cornerstone of modernist and existentialist literature.
