Description

A friendless, misfit boy unwittingly becomes a wizard and ends up having to save the town he is desperately trying to escape.

All Goff wanted was for his essay on witchcraft to be good enough to win a scholarship to a private academy far away from Spraksville, the miserable, spooky little town he is stuck in. But, if he'd known that Spraksville's history of witchcraft was more than just folklore, he never would have experimented with casting a spell in the cemetery at midnight as research to make the essay great.

When his spellcasting unexpectedly sparks some real magic, the gargoyles make Goff a wizard, and he becomes the mortal enemy of Harkland Mathers XIII, the most powerful dark wizard in centuries—an evil sorcerer plotting to become invincible by performing an ancient ritual on Halloween night that will destroy the entire town and everyone in it.

While navigating the confusing world of magic, keeping himself and his newfound friends alive, and trying to stop the ritual, Goff discovers his fate is part of a plot hatched thirteen generations ago to make him the chosen one...chosen to be the clueless misfit wizard who will have no chance of stopping the ritual that will make this Halloween night the last night of freedom the world ever knows.

I had a wonderful time with this story which painted an intense but charming picture of magic leaking into the otherwise ordinary life of a boy living on the outside of society looking in.
Gracely ensures the story never slows, with constant action and new developments hidden around every corner...Gracely manages to sneak in friendship alongside the adventure. Readers will be drawn in quickly and never want to get out.

Fred Gracely

I've been a misfit all my life. I have enough dyslexia that left and right occasionally don't exist, and I have a long history with ADD, bullying (receiving end), and social anxiety. I grew up in Pennsylvania and now reside outside Boston, Massachusetts. After attending six different colleges and studying many subjects (English composition, art, electronics, computer science, psychology), I earned a B.S. in Psychology from Framingham State University and, later in life, an M.A. in Human Relations, Specializing in Holistic Counseling Psychology from Lesley University (psychology is one of my passions). I don't write for any specific age, but I'm young at heart, so my books are pure escapism wrapped up in lots of bantering and humor. I'm delighted that my readers range from 4th graders to mature adults. There are several reasons for this. First of all, I write meaningful books with a clear message and theme. Secondly, my love of psychology results in my books often dealing with deeper concepts and presenting sophisticated views of the internal worlds of humans. At the same time, my love of exciting, unique, and atmospheric stories keeps them fun and engaging. So, there is a lot in there for readers young and old.
