Description

Baking with Papan is always an adventure as stories swirl in the kitchen. Join Papan and Vanessa as they go from the bumpy Pyrenees Mountains into fancy Paris and to the tropical island of Cuba while kneading, dancing and singing along the way. Based on a true story, this was how Vanessa Garcia (author) learned to bake bread with her grandfather when she was a little girl. While baking together, her grandfather told her incredible stories of his life. Through his stories, Vanessa learned about her roots and the power of love and family. Get a copy of What the Bread Says and celebrate family, cultures, and the resilience of the human spirit. Grab an apron and come find out what the bread says! FREE bread recipe included in the book for additional quality time with your reader. There is also a FREE Reader’s Guide for children. The guide contains interactive lesson plans that deepen comprehension and encourage critical thinking skills. The Reader’s Guide and coloring pages are available for FREE download from the publisher website.

Author(s)

Vanessa Garcia

Vanessa has written and worked for Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, and Caillou. She also writes plays, articles, and novels too! She bakes bread with her son and daughter in their Miami kitchen all the time, passing down Papan’s recipes.

Illustrator(s)

Tim Palin

Tim Palin was born in Salem, MA, to a non-witching family (as far as he knows). From elementary school and beyond, Tim took lots of art classes and stayed up WAY too late drawing. He had a knack for making works of art using everything from pencils and ink to clay and egg cartons and Popsicle sticks! It didn't take him long to discover that Popsicle sticks weren't really his medium. Now he uses his computer and his imagination to make the world a cuter place. When Tim isn't illustrating or designing books, you can find him baking cakes, time-traveling, planning his global takeover, and binge-watching cheesy sitcoms with his super-charming husband, Michael, and three canine beasts, Edith, Lavinia, and Esteban (who goes by 'Steve'). www.timpalincreative.com
