The book paints vivid portraits of a host of characters embodying the diverse individuals one might encounter in a post-World War II industrial environment. This is an elegy to towns and industries that once thrived—now left to decay or vanish—such as the Capitol Records facility in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the textile mill across the street.

Bill Savage is the author of "To the Mill and Back," a novel set in 1970s America that has a universal appeal for anyone who ever had a job as a teenager, or worked with some interesting characters.
"I believe this book will be interesting to anyone who has worked in a factory or, in this case, a textile mill," he said.
"I am a fairly regular visitor to the U.K., and I have been to cities such as Manchester, which once relied heavily on such mills for the employment of their residents and their economic health," he said. "In Manchester, or in Liverpool, as in many parts of the U.S., there are former mills that have been repurposed as apartments, government buildings, etc. (See video)."
"Almost from the time I wrote it, I thought this book would be relevant to those types of places, all over the world."
