Review
Youâve heard of a light at the end of the tunnel, but what about a light in the tunnel? In a time of fatigue, instability and uncertainty, could this be what we really need? Bernhard von Mutius thinks so. âThe art of living encompasses all the skills we really need when we donât feel capable of doing anything at all,â he says.
In this new book, von Mutius thinks beyond the standard concepts of self-development, tackling ideas such as sustainability, benevolent creativity and personal growth. Conventional thinking on time management views tasks through the lenses of âimportanceâ and âurgencyâ; von Mutius argues that beyond merely getting things done, we should strive for âdoing things wellâ. He describes an art of living characterised by improvisation, by divergence from the norm; one that is creative yet pragmatic, courageous yet unassuming. From a material perspective, this art of living embraces the idea of doing with little and questions how it can best use what it has.
