Review

Derek Taylor Kent hatches a charmingly ridiculous barnyard story that young readers will flock to. Kent nails the comedic tone, while the illustrations provide a comic-like feel perfect for the intended readers. It's hard to get any more ludicrous (or delightful) than a man transformed into a giant chicken or a cowboy named Cowboy Sparkleboots. Kent knows how to make kids (and adults) laugh, and does so with wild abandon. Readers will eagerly look forward to the next installment. --The BookLife Prize

If you like comic books, The Mootants vs. The Unstoppable Mega-Chicken by Derek Taylor Kent will be just up your alley...A seamless blend of action, adventure, and comedy makes The Mootants vs. The Unstoppable Mega-Chicken an absolute riot to read. Derek Taylor Kent's action-adventure tale is strikingly enhanced by some eye-catching artwork by Bright Jungle Studios and vibrant characters who pop out of the pages. Expect to be dropped amid the action from the first page onward, following Kyma as she unwittingly stumbles into an adventure of a lifetime. Each character feels distinct and brimming with personality. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between Kyma, Pepper, Henry Jr., and Nervous Nelly. Even the villains are hysterically funny. This is a book for middle graders, especially those under twelve. So hop on for a wild ride! --Reader's Favorite Book Awards
