For fans of Harry Potter, Goosebumps, and A Series of Unfortunate Events, this page-turning fantasy novel for ages 8-12 will keep young readers turning every page and cheering in triumph.
Rudy Berkman thought he was the luckiest kid in the world when his family moved to Danville, recently named "The Best City in the World." There is no crime and the schools are considered the best in the nation. The only problem is, all the kids at Danville Junior High act like mindless robots and his teachers seem to want him dead! When an enchanted homework comes to life and 'eats' his dog alive, Rudy embarks on a dangerous quest with his kooky grandpa and the school bully to rescue his beloved best friend from a greater evil than he could ever imagine.
This action-packed adventure is ideal for reluctant readers, superhero fans, and anyone who is looking for the next magical story after finishing Harry Potter.

Review
I really enjoyed the book, My Homework Ate my Dog by Derek Taylor Kent, because of the wonderful plotline. It kept you on the edge of your seat, never wanting to put the book down. My Homework Ate my Dog had easy vocabulary but wasn t boring. It was very descriptive and wasn t repetitive. I would recommend this book to kids ages 8-14 who enjoy reading adventure books. --LitPick
An adventure/scifi hero’s journey for young adults, this novel has all the markings of a series in the making. With this author’s imagination, Rudy could be kept busy and we could be kept entertained until he reaches his maturity in this world where the unexpected is the rule and the frenetic action never stops. Rudy Berkman responds to the dreadfully changed circumstances of his life with all of the confidence of a near-teen and all of the insecurity of a child, that is, exactly as an 11-year-old would. He is a completely believable character who finds himself in the completely weird circumstances of magical realism. An engrossing tale of mayhem, mix-ups, magical potions, and mishaps galore brings another likable adolescent hero to the world of young adult literature. --BookLife
