Experienced Publishing Professionals
DropCap Rights Agency is made up of a team of passionate professionals with decades of experience in the fields of book publishing, foreign language rights, and workflow technology. We love introducing our publishers’ books to new markets around the world and pride ourselves in representing titles we truly believe in.
A drop cap is often the first letter of a chapter and is derived from the Latin for “standing at the beginning.” We believe we are at the beginning of a new chapter in how we sell foreign language rights. By combining our one-of-a-kind technology, along with long-term personal relationships, and deep industry knowledge, we aim to put more titles in front of the right buyers, creating more rights deals and sustained royalties for our publishers

Our Team At DropCap Rights Agency
Sometimes in life, you meet the right people at the right time and things you never thought possible suddenly are. That’s how DropCap Rights Agency came to be. We come from disciplines across the publishing spectrum and the result is a relationship-based rights agency powered by innovative technology. We’ve built a system that allows us to maximize sales of our publishers’ current and back lists by proactively presenting curated titles to meet the specific requests of our 2,200 rights buyers. Our system doesn’t replace the human element needed to find that perfect title buried in a client’s backlist, it just makes it easier and significantly more efficient to identify it and get it in front of the right buyer at the right time.
You’re only reading this now because one of our co-founders, Allison Olson, wanted to provide an even better service to her publishers and rights buying clients. In her 25 years of being a foreign rights agent (the last 14 running her own agency, Letter Soup, now part of DropCap), Allison, tried a number of products and services to enhance her business. None of them worked.
Remember the part about meeting the right people at the right time? In early 2018, Allison ran into another one of our founders, Mark Levine, at a networking event. Mark is the former founder and CEO of Hillcrest Media, which started as a self-publishing company, but soon grew to have other divisions in traditional publishing, book printing, and managing sales, distribution, and royalties for more than 11,000 titles. Hillcrest built a proprietary publishing platform that had 1,800 possible publishing workflow combinations. Mark sold Hillcrest in 2016.
Speaking of the right people being available when you need them to be, meet the former CTO and COO of Hillcrest — Mark Traynor and Lindsay Jones. Mark Traynor architected the Hillcrest system and Lindsay made sure it worked the way the Hillcrest staff, customers, and outside vendors needed it to.
The Hillcrest alums brought their knowledge of publishing software technology to the table and Allison delivered a thriving foreign rights agency.
And….we could not be more excited to introduce you to DropCap.
