DropCap represents U.S. and U.K. based book publishers in marketing and selling foreign language and related subsidiary rights to their titles. We have been doing this for more than 25 years and have sold book rights in over 180 different languages and in more than 120 countries.
Over that 25 years, our team has built relationships with more than 2,200 subsidiary rights buyers around the world.
Most of the publishers we work with have between 50 to 5,000 titles. It is not the size of the publisher that determines representation; it’s whether its titles match the buying needs of the rights buyers we work with. DropCap represents publishers with as few as one or two books. If there is an international market for your titles, we’re interested.
There are a few reasons why many small and medium-sized publishers don’t pursue the sale of foreign rights on their own. The process of who to pitch, who to trust, what contract terms should be included and how to track and collect royalties can be confusing. Publishers work with us because we take all of that off of their plates.
We work with all of our publishers to tailor an international rights sales program to suit their specific needs. Typically, we handle the marketing, the negotiations, and the sales of their titles. Each country we sell to has different tax laws that require us (or our publisher clients) to complete tax agency forms with the IRS and taxing authorities in other countries. Part of our service is making sure that all international tax forms are completed and filed properly on behalf of our publishers. We also handle the entire royalty collection and distribution process for our publishers who require that service (some of our larger publishers handle royalty collection internally).
