Description

Healing Reimagined, Hope Reclaimed, and Humanity Regenerated

Your trauma did not start and will not end with you. Despite this fact, our healing-obsessed Eurocentric society consistently misplaces its focus on the self, ignoring the cultural and historical landscape that is inherently tied to our individual and shared troubles. The only way to truly move forward is to abandon the comfort cult of individual recovery and shift toward a new method of collective transformation.

The Regeneration Process is that new and necessary mode of healing. Developed by Dr. Ame Cutler, this method calls us to recognize centuries of Indigenous wisdom, combining it with modern trauma theory to challenge our standard model of psychology, which often overlooks the interconnectedness of people, culture, and the natural world. Both conceptual and practical, this book will equip you with a clear method for breaking cycles of harm, tools for shifting from self-focus to collective responsibility, and a framework for acting as a regenerative agent in your own community and ecosystem.

For those willing to stop simply performing transformation and begin practicing true collective repair, this six-phase process will task you with restoring what has been lost, reclaiming what has been stolen, and regenerating what must now emerge.

“In this visionary work, Dr. Ame Cutler confronts the failures of extractive, individualistic healing models and calls us—urgently—into a regenerative responsibility to one another and to the Earth. Grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, somatic intelligence, and ancestral accountability, she offers a clear and actionable pathway from personal repair to collective renewal. At a moment of converging ecological, social, and spiritual crises, this book is not aspirational—it is necessary. A vital contribution to shaping a livable future for generations yet to come.”

—Dr. Michael Yellow Bird (Arikara), professor and former dean of the Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba, and coauthor of Decolonizing Social Work Education: Memory, Haunting and Critical Hope in the Nordics

“A First Nations scout travels over the horizon to see personally a path for the community to follow. Ame Cutler has done this. Her professional healing skills are enhanced by her experientially learned transformation. Using effective lessons to create powerful and wholistic transformation, Dr. Cutler brings intergenerational health and a renewed vision of life within reach of all. As society becomes increasingly post secular, The Regeneration Process will be the north star guiding the next seven generations.”
—Dr. Martin Brokenleg (Šičáŋǧu Lakȟóta), coauthor of Reclaiming Youth at Risk

“In the ancient ways, rectification and reconciliation often came before healing and awakening. In Ch'an Buddhism, practitioners have a purification chant: All the harmful karma I've created, out of my beginningless greed, hatred, and delusion, born of my body, mouth and thought, I now repent completely. Dr. Ame Cutler's work brings the same healing edge, in a thoroughly contemporary context, to our planetary dis-ease. I am grateful for her work.”
—Robert Tindall, coauthor of The Sacred Soil: Biochar and the Regeneration of the Earth

Endorsement
“In our urgent moment of multiple crises, this powerful and highly accessible book opens the doors of healing beyond personal suffering to include cultural healing. It offers a profound critical and practical understanding of human psychology that is transdisciplinary, systemic, grounded in relationality, historical, and decolonial to the core. And this is where the future of psychology lies. The evocative descriptions of Dr. Cutler’s personal transformation invite the reader to engage with her critical perspectives and healing practices. Instead of being tied to our individualistic paradigm of normative dissociation—the pathology at the root of so many social ills—this book offers a powerful way to re-enter our web of relationality in practice and theory. This is healing in the deepest sense. Dr. Cutler’s significant contribution joins the avantgarde of psychologists who are committed to expanding the individualistic lens of psychology. An impressive and readable book, highly recommended to anybody who believes that ultimately there can be no personal healing without social healing.”

“Early in her groundbreaking book, Dr. Cutler declares: This is not a time for defensiveness or performative guilt. Guilt is indulgent, a way to avoid responsibility. What’s called for now is action. Dr. Ame Cutler is a force of nature. The clarity of her vision; her professional and personal commitment to global change is inspiring, and critically needed. As a clinician in mental health for over 50 years, I can assuredly say, I wish her work was available to me when I was being trained. Read The Regenerative Process. Study its meaning and follow its clear, concise, revolutionary direction. It will change your life, and with good fortune, it will change the world.”
—Richard A. Heckler, PhD, author of Waking up Alive

Endorsement
“Dr. Cutler’s work opens a painful but important question - how to go about the work of truly healing? Not just our own wounds, but those of our places and systems. Through the regenerative process that she proposes, is a profound possibility to stay with the cracks. Well worth a read for anyone concerned with serving life.”
—Bas van den Berg, coauthor of The Art of Regenerative Educatorship, and cofounder and codirector of the School for Regenerative Educators

Endorsement
“The whole concept of Regeneration has been tossed around and used and abused for personal and corporate gain, Ame Cutler cleans up so much of this mental clutter and directs the reader in a beautiful, engaging, and an instructive way that challenges our assumptions about life itself and provides us a path forward."
—Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin, founder and board member of the Emeritus Regenerative Agriculture Alliance, and author of In the Shadow of Green Man

Endorsement
“The Regeneration Process is the wow factor that punctuates the necessity of collective care as transformative self-care. It elucidates the interconnectedness of holistic health and well-being, encompassing mind, body, and spirit for all living beings (past, present, and future), including Mother Nature (being in balance). Integrating the beauty of professional storytelling with engaging exercises and impactful lessons learned reflections, Cutler brilliantly provides a blueprint for scholarly discourse, drawing on the science of Ancestral Wisdom (promoting epistemological justice), and for kitchen-table conversations for collective healing. This is a must-read for all walks of life, given the current global socio-political context that threatens all humankind, and it is poised to epitomize the African proverb: You begin a conversation not knowing the end. Thank you, Dr. Cutler, for this gift!”
—Theopia Jackson, PhD, licensed psychologist, program chair of the Humanistic Clinic Psychology Program at Saybrook University, and past president of The Association of Black Psychologists, Inc
