FALCON REVIEW

Resilience @ Work: How to Coach Yourself Into a Thriving Future" by Simon T. Bailey is a practical guide designed to help individuals develop resilience to thrive in both personal and professional spheres.

Written in an engaging and accessible style, the book employs a parable involving four characters—Hurry, Worry, Steady, and Ready—who meet at a weekly surfing camp in California.

Through their interactions and the Friend-to-Friend Process, they share their struggles and learn valuable lessons about resilience.

Readers will gain insights into building resilience, managing stress, and achieving personal fulfillment.

The book opens with an introduction to the concept of resilience, emphasizing its significance in today's stress-filled world. Simon T. Bailey shares his journey of seeking wisdom through the book of Proverbs and realizing that wisdom must be paired with resilience to be effective.

The narrative introduces the four main characters, each representing different aspects of resilience:

- Hurry: Constantly chasing opportunities.

- Worry: Overwhelmed by anxiety.

- Steady: Found fulfillment through change.

- Ready: Overcome personal challenges to help others.

A key tool in the book is the Friend-to-Friend Process, developed by J. David Stone and Dr. Larry Keefauver.

This process involves asking three reflective questions to help individuals uncover their inner wisdom and develop resilience. Through the characters' personal stories and struggles, readers learn valuable lessons about resilience:

- Hurry: Learns to plan his life.

- Worry: Starts her day with positive expectations.

- Steady: Shares her journey of overcoming trauma.

The book provides actionable insights and steps to help readers apply the lessons of resilience to their own lives. These include:

- Focusing on the present.

- Setting reasonable goals.

- Creating boundaries to protect well-being.

The importance of patience, mindfulness, and adaptability is emphasized, along with the need to take action and seize opportunities.

In this fast-paced world, the ability to cultivate resilience has become paramount.

Be inspired by this business parable that sheds light on this essential skill. You will meet four individuals: Hurry, Worry, Ready, and Steady–navigating the challenges of an ever-evolving future.

Hurry and Worry are introduced to a self-test, a catalyst for personal growth. Meanwhile, Ready and Steady, experienced in navigating every economic climate, share self-coaching wisdom on thriving in any situation. It’s time for you to take charge of your destiny.

My Review:

Resilience is just not a beautiful word but also an empowering belief that could make you stand over and again in any adverse situation. Well, so far I have stumbled upon many definitions of the word “resilience” and if I believe the author Simon T. Bailey, it is an ever changing word that implies on people who bounce back and adapt according to their situations.

However, the author assists that resilience helps one in self-coaching for future that could be their growth story, professional stance, or personal life.

I sighed in appreciation for the author as he made the book so presentable and readable with colorful insights. The book is short and fast-paced, with important lessons delivering through its four characters: Hurry, Worry, Steady, and Ready.

They meet during a surfing camp in California. I felt that in all characters the author has shared some or other part of his life. As Hurry is unstable but it is young as well, so does Worry, always pessimist…but Steady and Ready are experienced…ossified with beliefs and experiences they got over life.

Over the pages as it chugs ahead, the book teaches us to leverage the power of resilience, not just a common resilience but brilliant resilience.

There are many issues of tenacity and behaviour that can be corrected by some good and easy processes forwarded by the author in the book such as wisdom of Zig Ziglar…help others and they will help you back…

Next is the “Friend-to-Friend” process to tap inherent wisdom. The book builds a strong and positive ambience by emphasizing on discovering one’s inner unused wisdom and potential to excel in all spheres of life.

Also I would like to admit that most of us will relate to Hurry and Worry but try of becoming like Steady and Ready in our life. Simon shows us the way towards brilliant resilience.

Brilliant Resilience advantages are many, some of them that I personally liked and would love to utilize in my life from this book are:

Simon T. Bailey’s new book is Resilence @ Work: How to Coach Yourself into a Thriving Future. Like any good nonfiction book falling into the subcategories of business and leadership advice, as well as general self-help to boot, Bailey is able to summarize his core point in a single sentence.

Like an MLA paper or thesis statement, conciseness is key, particularly when the focal points are in a decidedly grayer zone than something externally straightforward. Mr. Bailey follows what is a current precept of postmodernist workplace leadership, where one’s personal standing affects professional performance.

As Bailey demonstrates, the two are not mutually exclusive. In a world where we are literally more connected than ever, the lines and boundaries between the personal and the professional are changing.

A symbiotic rapport when it comes to work and self-determination in the workplace is becoming more pronounced, with people like Bailey being key guides to normalizing things in a manner that’s clear, respectful, and responsible.

“The quality we really need to thrive in our chaotic, fast-paced, competitive, confusing, ever-evolving world is wisdom paired with resilience, or more emphatically, Brilliant Resilience!” Bailey encapsulates, at the beginning of the read.

“Wisdom may be the glove, but resilience is the hand that goes into that glove. Resilience is the very application, the embodiment of wisdom. Wisdom is knowing what to do while resilience is actually doing it. According to the Gallup State of the Workplace report, roughly 7 out of 10 people are stressed out, dealing with high anxiety and borderline depression. The workplace imperative now is ‘well-being.’ Resilience decreases stress, reduces burnout, and increases psychological capital.

Ultimately, resilient companies increase productivity, passion, and putting purpose before profit, thus becoming even more profitable.”

What Resilience@Work is not is a quick fix, a silver bullet, or a magic pill,” writes Bailey. “It is meant to be a guide to enhance and embellish your life at home, in your community, and at your place of business. It is meant to help you discover the wisdom that is lying dormant in the roiling ocean of your own soul and allow that wisdom to lead to Brilliant Resi...
