Description

In A Modern Manuscript, Christina Swigel turns inward to explore the emotions that bind us—to lovers, family, friends, faith, and the dreams that give life meaning.

Moving between sensual desire and enduring devotion, private uncertainty and hard-won hope, these poems examine what it means to love deeply while searching for emotional security, self-worth, and a sense of purpose. Swigel writes of passion and loyalty, temptation and forgiveness, poverty and resilience, friendship and family, capturing the restless movement between vulnerability and possibility.

At the heart of the collection is a belief that love can be transformative: a force capable of strengthening human connection, encouraging gratitude, and inspiring us to pursue the lives we imagine for ourselves. Poems such as “Love Prevails,” “Emotional Security,” “Poverty Poem,” and “Kindness in Love” expand the collection beyond romance to consider compassion, perseverance, and our responsibilities to one another.

Intimate, direct, and hopeful, A Modern Manuscript invites readers to reflect on their own relationships, aspirations, and emotional journeys—and to keep believing in what might still be possible.

Christina Swigel is a United States–based writer whose lifelong appreciation for poetry began during childhood visits to the library. An avid supporter of the arts, she enjoys reading, writing, and exploring museums and art galleries. She is also passionate about helping others and has devoted time to volunteering and working with people experiencing homelessness. A Modern Manuscript, her first poetry collection, grew from her desire to express the emotional dimensions of love, relationships, resilience, and the human experience while encouraging others to pursue their own creative ambitions. Through her writing, Swigel hopes to inspire readers to value the arts, embrace positivity, follow their passions, and remain hopeful about life’s possibilities.
