My Picun Siblings
A panoramic portrayal of the life stories of grassroots migrant workers who possess dual identities as labourers and literary writers.
"Picun" is a literary community established spontaneously by migrant workers outside the Fifth Ring Road in Beijing. Picun's literature club is filled with many literature enthusiasts who are also workers. These individuals lead dual lives, toiling as laborers during the day and expressing their artistic talents as literary writers at night. This book is a non-fiction masterpiece that portrays the life stories of those grassroots workers in China. Yuan Ling spent seven years conducting in-depth interviews with thirteen workers and finally made this book.
While works like I Deliver Parcels in Beijing and My Mother the Janitor explore the inner worlds of certain types of workers, My Picun Siblings provides a broader and more comprehensive perspective on the emerging genre of new working-class literature in China.
