Leo Nette

Leo Nette is an Australian historian, researcher and former postal professional with a lifelong passion for communication history. Beginning his career as a Junior Postal Officer in the 1950s, he later served in a variety of senior roles within Australia’s postal services before moving into private enterprise.

A longtime resident of Beechworth, Nette has been deeply involved in preserving the town’s heritage. He served as a Beechworth Town Councillor and Shire President and was named Beechworth Citizen of the Year in 1995.

He also helped establish the Morsecodians group dedicated to preserving Morse code and telegraph history. Combining professional experience with extensive historical research, Nette brings unique insight and enthusiasm to the story of Australia’s early communication networks.
