Indie Authors on the Rise: 2023 Success Stories with DropCap and IBPA

Our partnership with the Independent Book Publisher’s Association (IBPA) has been one of the best parts of 2023 for us at DropCap! We are so thrilled to highlight some of our most recent indie success stories.

1) The Book of Azreal and The Throne of Broken Gods by Amber Nicole

IBPA Author Amber Nicole has much to celebrate! She has earned 9 international rights contracts and a 5-book deal with a UK publisher.

“We are positively thrilled for Amber! She worked hard to create a lot of buzz for her books on TikTok, and those efforts really helped make her books stand out for our rights buyers.”

- Monica Meehan, DropCap Rights Agent

2) What is ChatGPT Doing…and Why Does it Work? by Stephen Wolfram

What is ChatGPT Doing… and Why Does it Work?, by Stephen Wolfram, came to us from IBPA and has secured 13 rights contracts to date.

Stephen can also boast earning the highest advance in DropCap history for his book!

“This was the right book at the right time! With so much international attention being paid to the AI space, this book continues to be sought after by our global rights buyers.”

- Allison Olson, DropCap Rights Agent

3) The Quickstart Guides Series by Clydebank Media

Several Quickstart Guides from Clydebank Media have quickly received rights contracts from our international buyers.

The Personal Finance, Starting a Business, and the SQL books are just a few of the standouts from this collection.

“We knew when we received these titles from IBPA that our global rights buyers would be interested. How-to guides are consistently sought-after in the international market!”

-Roseanne Cheng, DropCap Acquisitions Agent

4) You and Me Written by Caley Nunnally & Illustrated by Audrey Schmid

You and Me, brought on board from Ninewise Publishing, recently secured a deal for Chinese language rights. We have a feeling that several titles from this publisher will make a global impact.

“We’ve heard time and again from our international partners that books teaching empathy and compassion are at the top of their lists. It’s no wonder that this beautiful book caught the attention of our Asian market!”

-Monica Meehan, DropCap Rights Agent

5) The Invisible Gift by Katsura Suzuki

The Invisible Gift, brought to us by IBPA members Berry Powell Press, quickly secured an English language rights deal in India.

“Books about relationship development are always eye-catching for our rights buyers. We talk a lot about books having universal themes– the desire for healthy relationships is certainly universal!”

-Allison Olson, DropCap Rights Agent

Our IBPA titles also include standouts also from Gnome Road Publishing and Breathe the Change Press. Our agents are currently in negotiations for their titles and hope to end 2023 with several more deals from these outstanding publishers.

We are positively thrilled that our exclusive partnership with IBPA is yielding such great results for so many indie authors, and wee have no doubt that our success will continue to grow throughout 2024.
